SYFY Chucky Season 2 (2022) spoiler free review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

After the great first season of last year having a season 2 was more than necessary. Chucky season 1 left the viewers in a huge cliffhanger making the wait a torture. Luckily, season two picks up right were we left giving a shocking start to the continuation of this story that is far from being over. Both seasons are now available to buy or rent video on demand (VOD).

After his diabolical plan to invade America’s children’s hospitals was foiled in season one, Chucky now seeks revenge on those he holds responsible: surviving teens Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Björgvin Arnarsonq) and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), along with his ex Tiffany, now his sworn enemy. Meanwhile, can “Jevon” make it as a couple in the face of adversity at their new Catholic school, not to mention a brand-new onslaught of terror from the demon doll?

Season 2 synopsis

The cast includes the return of season one survivors Zackary Arthur as Jake, Bjorgvin Arnarson as Devon, Alyvia Alyn Lind as Lexy, Alex Vincent as Andy, Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany Valentine, Fiona Dourif as Nica Pierce, Brad Dourif as Chucky, and new additions such as Lachlan Watson as Glen/Glenda, and Bella Higginbotham as Nadine.

My opinion

Picking up right were season one ended the first episode of season 2 “Halloween II” shows the Tiffany doll holding Andy at gunpoint inside the Good Guys dolls truck that he stole. Knowing that his options are limited he drives into a cliff with the hope that all the Chucky dolls inside the truck will be destroyed. The first concern comes to mind: is Andy dead? You will get the answer five episodes later. A year later during Halloween night Chucky manages to find Jake, Devon, and Lexy making the trio end in a religious school called Catholic School of the Incarnate Lord. With the kids trapped and nowhere to go Chucky is ready to continue his plan.

The season has a subplot showing Tiffany’s life a year later with Nica-Chucky as her captive and her broken relationship with her twins Glen and Glenda. While new characters are introduced the story is still focused in Jake, Devon, and Lexy and their failed efforts to kill Chucky once and for all. At the end of the first episode a Good Guys doll is delivered to the school as a toy donation, setting in motion Chucky’s plan against the kids.

During the eight episodes the series does not lose its dark humor and brings the best of Zackary Arthur, Bjorgvin Arnarson, and Alyvia Alyn Lind as actors. Together this cursed trio are unstoppable sharing a good chemistry on screen as it’s expected now that Alyn Lind’s character Lexy is a genuine friend of Jake and Devon. Jennifer Tilly delivers once again an iconic performance of Tiffany Valentine, without her the show would be incomplete. Once again the season ends in a cliffhanger, but after the success of both season a third should happen.

While is not confirmed yet fans wait for a third season and more. Don Mancini’s decision to continue Chucky’s story as a series rather than films has been the best decision. Enjoy one of the best horror series of the year now on video on demand (VOD).
