Based on the horror podcast of the same name, the latest Netflix horror series promises to be an intriguing and addictive series that you wont be able to stop watching. With an official release on January 14th, 2022 on the platform the series has been developed by Rebecca Sonnenshine with James Wan and Paul Harris Boardman as executive producers.

An archivist hired to restore a collection of tapes finds himself reconstructing the work of a filmmaker and her investigation into a dangerous cult.

Official plot

It starts Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion) and Dina Shihabi (Daredevil) in leading roles. With 8 episode each one has an average running time of 45-58 minutes.

My opinion

This is on a long time the first time that I strongly disagree with the general opinion of a series. I seriously thought that I would enjoy this “horror” series that is more a triller and suspense than anything. Instead I had a hard time trying to finishing it and they’re just 8 episodes.

Eight episodes that felt like eternity. My biggest problem was how long each episode felt and the lead to nowhere on the plot. The first episode wasn’t able to hook me and making me binge watch the rest of the series. It just make me curious but by the third one I knew that I didn’t like the series and that I was going to ended because I had to not because I wanted to.

The fact that the series resolves everything on the last two episodes make it even worse. It felt like they’re were trying too hard on making it a series with 8 episodes when honestly they could have been less. It has a great plot and good acting, but an awful execution.

When I first read about the series and saw the trailer I was intrigued, since it sounded interesting. But that wasn’t the case for me. By the ending is obvious that a second season will be coming and by the good reception that has received is not a surprise that will happen.

I won’t be watching a second season that’s for sure. You can watch Archive 81 now on Netflix, I hope that you enjoy it more than me.
