Morbius (2022) spoiler free review

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.

After being delayed seven times Morbius has finally arrived to theaters. But, as expected, the comments and reviews are already here to say the same thing: it’s not a good superhero movie. Sadly, the award winning actor Jared Leto is once again in a bad superhero production. Only that this time is on the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

Biochemist Michael Morbius tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, but when his experiment goes wrong, he inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism instead.

Official plot

Directed by Daniel Espinosa the film starts Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, Jared Harris as Emil Nikols, Matt Smith as Milo, Adria Arjona as Dr. Martine Bancroft, and Tyrese Gibson as Simon Stroud. On the trailer is shown a brief appearance of Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes.

My opinion

The biggest mistake that you can do is having high expectations of this film. After Spider-Man No Way Home confirming back in December 2021 that the multiverse was indeed happening is obvious that fans are expecting more of it on the upcoming projects. Morbius is a film that was delayed seven times, eventually hitting theaters on April 1st, 2022. The film had a reshoot on February 2020 after being completed on September 2019 and having the official trailer released on January 2020. Of course, just like a bunch of other films, Morbius was pushed back to March 2021 because of COVID-19. But we all know that the delayed lasted until April 2022.

Probably the biggest fail of the film was the over delay and changing the film with reshoots and cutting out scenes. I don’t need to mention them since they aren’t that hard to notice that they’re missing from the final cut. Why? I blame the delays since probably since the film is being released after No Way Home, that confirms the multiverse, some events maybe didn’t make sense. Still, is not an excuse since is not impossible to release films that aren’t in chronological order.

In overall the film is plain and emotionless. It fails to capture the viewers and make them feel scared or excited. The fights scenes are indeed the worst part of all. The cast doesn’t gives an outstanding performance and the villain is one that you will forget. Since it’s still a Marvel film of course you need to stay to see the two post credit scenes. They’re an open window to the multiverse and more sequels of the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
