Stranger Things Season 4 spoiler free review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

After three years of waiting Stranger Things Season 4 is finally here. Divided in two parts this season will become darker than any other season. With clear references to horror movies and set in high school this season brings a more mature tone to the horror science fiction series that has become one the most successful Netflix originals since the release on July 15, 2016. Created by The Duff Brothers the series brings a mix of references of the 80s pop culture and Cold War experiments.

It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier.

Official plot

The first seven episodes of the season are already available to stream on Netflix with the last 2 remaining will be released on July 1 of 2022. This first 7 episodes are way longer than usual being one hour and 15 minutes at least bringing in new characters in subplots to the story.

My opinion

Vol 1 – May 27, 2022

After three years of waiting Stranger Things is finally back better than ever. This season will bring us six months later after the ending of season three with the high school issues that our protagonist are facing including the presence of a new demon called Vecna. A through the seven episodes the characters are divided in groups never being all together. This brings many subplots to the season giving way too much details to remember.

The only downside of vol 1 is precisely that. It can become very overwhelming for the viewer having to remember every detail that will matter later on this season. There are way too many groups and subplots happening at the same time making it hard to remember every single thing that has happen. The special effects and make up are better than ever. This season is darker than the last ones something that was expected and it didn’t disappoint. For horror fans will be easy to spot the reference of slasher classics of the 80s. We even have a horror icon on the cast, pay closely attention to episode four.

Still, this season is able to bring the answer to one of the most asked questions: From where Eleven’s power come from? Episode seven ends on a cliffhanger showing what we can expect on the next episodes that will conclude season 4. This leaves us with just one season left to end this complex story.

Some of the subplots are better than others, one especially being extremely boring than the rest because of the characters that include. Other characters will team up for the first time becoming the best ones of the season. Just like anything this season has it flaws but it was worth the long waiting.

Vol 2 – July 1, 2022

Vol 2 starts right we we left at the end of Chapter 7 or Vol 1. With just two remaining episodes season 4 is able to wrap things up as much as possible leaving just a few issues to resolve on season 5. Vol 2 is an emotional roller coaster so don’t forget to bring tissues. Rumors said that Vol 2 will had 5 deaths but it only has 3 giving hope on the fan’s favorite characters faith.

This season has one of the best soundtracks of the series elevating the emotions of the scenes. This second part of season 4 also shows the growth of not only the characters but the actors as well. The cast that started as kids now are talented teenagers that are able to bring performances worthy of recognitions and awards.

While season 5 is confirmed as the last one we don’t know yet how much we’re going to have to wait to return to the upside down. In the meantime you can rewatch Stranger Things season 1 to 4 on Netflix.
