Kevin Bacon on a horror movie set on a camp? That’s something no one wants to miss. Written and directed by John Logan (The Aviator) and produced by Jason Blum (Blumhouse Productions) and Kevin Bacon They/Them is a American slasher film released on August 5th, 2022 exclusively on Peacock.

A group of teenagers at an LGBTQ+ conversion camp endures unsettling psychological techniques while being stalked by a mysterious masked killer.

Official plot

The cast includes: Kevin Bacon (Friday the 13th), Anna Clumsky (My Girl), Carrie Preston (True Blood), Theo Germaine (The Politician), Quei Tann (How To Get Away With Murder), Austin Crute (Booksmart), Monique Kim, Anna Lore (Doom Patrol), Cooper Koch (Swallowed), and Darwin del Fabro.

My opinion

I wanted to like this movie, but it was impossible. The concept of conversion camps with the slasher elements can create a good and scary horror movie. Instead The/Them becomes a boring mess of that. The plot along with the cast and producers had the potential to be at least a decent slasher but sadly it didn’t happen. The killer is the most forgettable character, we see it at the opening scene and them we don’t see it again until the last 45 minutes of the film making you forget that there’s a bigger thread to the campers.

The film has received negative reviews from both the critics and audience, making it indeed part of the bad films of 2022. They/Them is not the worst film of the year but is until now the biggest disappointment.
