My Opinion

Segment: Stowaway by Kate Siegel © 2024. V/H/S/Beyond. Shudder.

With seven films, two spin-offs and a mini-series, the V/H/S franchise seems to be far from stopping. Since its beginning in 2012, this found-footage horror anthology franchise continues to captivate its audience despite the ups and downs of its projects. The most recent, V/H/S/Beyond, brings us 6 new segments focused on horror and science fiction.

Unlike other films in the franchise, the segments in this one feel more cohesive, giving a better experience. They don’t have similarities between them, but they are all under the umbrella of science fiction, giving consistency. The most notable segments are those directed by Christian Long and Justin Long and Kate Siegel. The Long brothers bring us a disturbing segment that is reminiscent of The Human Centipede (2009) and Tusk (2014), the latter starring Justin. On the other hand, Kate Siegel debuts as a director with her segment, which closes the film, written by her husband Mike Flanagan. The talent of this couple brings an overwhelming segment that closes with a flourish this “found footage film” of two hours in length.

V/H/S/Beyond is a nice addition to the franchise and is a good time if found footage, horror, and sci-fi are your thing. The film is now available exclusively on Shudder.
