American Horror Stories S2 Ep 7: Necro spoiler free review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Being a mortician and being passionate about death can turn your whole life upside down. The seventh episode of the second season of American Horror Stories feels like it should be: a bizarre and gruesome story. The title of the episode, Necro, can tell you all you need to know before watching it. Next to the first episode of this season, this is indeed the best episode. Necro is now available to stream on Hulu.

A young mortician discovers the living are more terrifying than the dead

Official plot

The cast includes Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer) as Sam, Cameron Cowperthwaite (Shameless) as Charlie, Spencer Neville (Ozark) as Jesse, and Jeff Doucette (Splash) as Henderson. This episode is directed by Logan Kibens (Operator) and written by Crystal Liu (American Horror Story).

My opinion

Sam is a mortician that loves her job, being praised by her boss, but judged by her boyfriend and friends. She doesn’t feel fulfilled with her life, only showing happiness and passion on her job and when she talks about it. All of that changes when she meets Charlie, the new body removal technician. They quickly connect over their knowledge on their work fields making obvious the attraction that they feel. But things take a dark twist after a prank played by Charlie to Sam.

This episode felt like the first seasons of American Horror Story, that essence of horror and bizarre that made the audience love the series on the first place. The story decides to go to a different direction that expected taking the viewer by surprise and closing with a shocking ending. The official trailer of this second season shows two scenes from this episode that are on a completely different context giving that element of surprise to it.

Next week is the season finale and this episode has increased the expectations of that last episode. As someone who has watched all 10 seasons of American Horror Story and now the two seasons of American Horror Stories I don’t know what to expect since the endings can be a hit or miss, there’s no middle ground.
