Rating: 2 out of 5.

After the disastrous season 10 but the good outcome of American Horror Stories Season 2 this new season remained in the middle of being decent or being another disappointment. The season premiered on October 19, 2022 airing two episodes each week instead of only one for the first time in the show’s history. On November 17, 2022 the two-part finale aired on Fx confirming that this series is incapable of giving the proper closure to a story.

“Mysterious deaths and disappearances ramp up in the city. Meanwhile, a doctor makes a frightening discovery, and a local reporter becomes tomorrow’s headline.”

Season 11 synopsis

This season’s cast featured Russell Tovey as Patrick Read, a closeted NYPD detective. Joe Mantello as Gino Barelli, New York Native’s reporter and Patrick’s partner. Billie Lourd as Dr. Hannah Wells, a scientist who discovered a new virus. Denis O’Hare as Henry Grant, a mafia hitman. Charlie Carver as Adam Carpenter, Leslie Grossman as Barbara Read, Patrick’s wife, Isaac Powell as Theo Graves, Zachary Quinto as Sam, and Patti LuPone as Kathy Pizzaz.

My opinion

Of all the seasons this is the one with the most realistic story. The HIV/AIDS epidemic started in 1981, the same year that the season takes place, quickly becoming a worldwide health issue. One of the most frequent mode of transmission is through homosexual sexual activity making them since the beginning one of the largest group of victims of this disease. This is the real American Horror Story, the deaths of thousands for an unknown disease and being discriminated for it.

It’s a huge disappointment that a story with so much potential with a talented cast was so poorly executed. Episode one serves as an introduction of the characters and what’s happening with the discovery of this new virus. After that each episode feels like a clue that leads to nothing. Even the villain/monster of this season can be guessed from the beginning. The shocking factor and plot twists are missing during the season.

American Horror Story is confirmed to last for at least two more seasons. As fans we can only hope that the upcoming season will improve but is unlikely. For me, this is probably the last season that I’ll ever see. I’ve been a fan since 2014 but I feel that is time to move on. All seasons of American Horror Story are available to stream on Hulu.
