Annabelle doll – The real story that inspired the films

Hello horror freaks! As recent as yesterday the Annabelle doll became trending topic on all over the internet after rumors of the doll being missing or stolen from The Warren’s Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut. It was later confirmed that it wasn’t true and that the doll still remains on her security box on the museum.

Following this event I want to take a moment and look back to the real story that inspired The Conjuring Universe, a shared universe and franchise of supernatural horror films that brings to the big screen some of the real-life cases of the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Ed and Lorraine Warren dedicated most of their life to the paranormal. Lorraine was recognized as a medium while Ed is the only demonologist recognized by the Catholic Church. They started when Ed began to paint houses that they believed that were supposedly “enchanted”. Lorraine started to develop her gift sitting in front of the houses and identifying ghosts and demons. They made a deal with the owner of the houses; they will sell them the paint if they let them investigate the house. Over time they became popular and started to work as professionals.

On of the most famous cases is the Annabelle doll. On 1968 two nurses that were roommates told the Warrens that they had a Raggedy Ann doll that was possessed by an evil spirit of a little girl called Annabelle Higgins and it moved by itself. The Warrens explained that spirts can’t possess objects, only demons can. Also the doll was used as a bridge because demons can’t really possess objects, the real motive of the demon was to possess one of the nurses. To this day the doll still remains in the Warren’s museum. In 2014 a film inspired on the case was released.

The film has negative reviews but still made possible a second film on 2017 Annabelle: Creation becoming a prequel of the 2014 film and the 4th of the The Conjuring franchise. Two years later a sequel was released: Annabelle Comes Home. Both films recieved better reviews that the first one. It is unknown if a 4th film will come.

On the mean time relax and enjoy your day, Annabelle is safe and far from escaping and making this year even worse.
