Rating: 3 out of 5.

Horror arrived to a small Oregon town. Based on the short story “The Quiet Boy” by Nick Antosca, who also wrote the film. It’s directed by Scott Cooper and produced by Guillermo del Toro.

Julia Meadows, a school teacher in a small town in Oregon, and her brother, Paul, the local sheriff, become concerned about one of her students, a young boy named Lucas Weaver who is secretly keeping a supernatural creature inside his house.

Official plot

My opinion

The use of folklore and supernatural creatures mixed with metaphors is not an easy thing to do. But Scott Cooper and the writing team where able to bring this story the best way possible.

A teacher with childhood trauma that sees the same behavior that she had as a child on one of her students is the begging of this film. But Lucas is passing for something way more than just an abusing home.

While sometimes characters doesn’t seem to fit well on the story the film is able to give the viewer a good scare with metaphors on the side. I would have like to see Del Toro more involved on the film, I’m sure he would have make it even better. This film for me is a 7/10.
