Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) spoiler free review
I dare you to say it a third time. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a 2024 American dark fantasy comedy horror film directed by Tim Burton and written by Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Seth Grahame-Smith. It is the sequel to Beetlejuice (1988) and the second film of the Beetlejuice franchise. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice opened on August 28, 2024 the 81st Venice International Film Festival, and was theatrically released overseas on September 4, 2024, and in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 6, 2024.
Three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River after an unexpected family tragedy. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life soon gets turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter discovers a mysterious portal to the afterlife. When someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, the mischievous demon gleefully returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
Film synopsis
The cast includes Michael Keaton as Betelgeuse (pronounced “Beetlejuice”), Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Justin Theroux as Rory, Monica Bellucci as Delores, Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson, Burn Gorman as Father Damien, Danny DeVito as a janitor, Arthur Conti as Jeremy, Filipe Cates as Vlad, and Santiago Cabrera as Richard.
My Opinion
The ghost with the most is back. 36 years after the events of Beetlejuice (1988), the Deetz family must return to Winter River for a final farewell. But they don’t count on the fact that the afterlife ghost and “bio-exorcist” Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice) is still in the house waiting for Lydia. Forced to work together, Lydia and Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice) enter the “afterlife” in hopes of saving Lydia’s daughter Astrid and escaping Betelgeuse’s (Beetlejuice) ex-wife Delores.
With a simple story and the characteristic humor of the previous film, Tim Burton brings us back to one of his most recognized characters in the cinema. The cast, led by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, reprise their roles as if it had been yesterday when they played them for the last time. The addition of Jenna Ortega, Willem Dafoe and Burn Gorman to the cast was the right choice. The costumes, makeup and attention to detail make this film a visual spectacle.
While maintaining the atmosphere, humor, and aspects that characterize these characters and story, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice works exactly as what it is: a sequel. It doesn’t try to replicate iconic moments from the first film or use the same set of events. Instead, it extends the story and works on its own allowing it to be original. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will give you a good time even though the story lacks direction at times and never justifies its existence. If you’re looking for a comedy horror fantasy film to have a good time with, this is a good choice.
