Chucky (2021) TV series spoiler free review
The tv series that no one asked for but that we deserved. Eight episodes where more than enough to bring back one of the most iconic characters in horror, Chucky, and other iconic characters of the franchise while introducing new ones. The series created the perfect balance between the legacy of Chucky and the new generation.
Airing weekly simultaneously on Syfy and USA Network from October 12, 2021 to November 30, 2021 the series received positive reviews all along. Just on its first week the series had a total of 4.4 million viewers and it became one of the highest rated premieres of 2021 on cable television.
The series followed the events of Cult of Chucky (2017), the seventh film of the franchise. It doesn’t have a connection with the 2019 reboot Child’s Play.
A vintage Good Guy doll is found at a yard sale, and the inevitable murdering that ensues terrorizes an idyllic American town while exposing its hypocrisies and secrets. Several characters from Chucky’s past, friends and foes alike, show up to expose the truth of the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

My opinion
Nothing could have ever prepared me to what this series brought to the table. We’re use to see the return of horror icons on mediocre ways that no one asked for. But this series did everything right and more.
From the very first episode the essence of the franchise is present while feeling fresh and new. The trailer alone showed that we would see the return of Andy, Tiffany, Kyle, and Nica. We also new that we would see flashbacks of Charles Lee Ray childhood and his early days as a killer.
The most impressive part of the flashbacks was seeing Ray young and being portrayed by Fiona Dourif, the daughter of Brad Dourif our original Chucky/Charles Lee Ray. The makeup effect is brilliant and makes you think that is that same actor that brought to life this character for the first time in 1988.
But probably the most loved scene happened during the second episode that takes place on Halloween night. Here Chucky goes looking for a party with a plan on his mind, doing what he does best, killing. The images of the doll with the Hello Kitty mask became viral on the internet just after the release of the episode.
This series is an excellent continuation of Chucky’s killing path while including new characters who are relatable and well written. Don Mancini is the creator of the series and did an excellent work with it. In my opinion the series is a 5/5 or a 10/10, simply the best horror series of the year.
Season 2 is coming!
Just a day before the finale episode of season one was released it was confirmed that a second season is on the way coming on 2022. It’s not a surprise since the series has been a success holding a approval rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
More details will be revealed as the years goes by and we can’t wait to see what’s Chucky’s new plan is.
