Film synopsis
The cast includes Olivia Holt as Ally, Mason Gooding as Jay Simmons, Gigi Zumbado as Monica, Ally’s friend, Michaela Watkins as Crystal, Ally and Jay’s boss, Devon Sawa as Detective Hobbs, Jordana Brewster as Detective Jeanette Shaw, Latham Gaines as Nico, and Chris Parker as Tommy.

Ghostface collides with Valentine’s Day is the best way to describe this romantic comedy slasher. Directed by Josh Ruben, Heart Eyes follows Seattle-based Ally (Olivia Holt), a pitch designer for a fashion company, and Jay (Mason Gooding) who, in order to save Ally’s career, meet up for dinner on Valentine’s Day only to be mistakenly identified as a couple by the Heart Eyes Killer or the “HEK”. The serial killer murders couples in various cities on Valentine’s Day and has now arrived in Seattle and has taken Ally and Jay as his next victims.
Following a similar concept to the last two Scream installments, the slasher Freaky (2020) and Thanksgiving (2023), Heart Eyes joins the group of modern slashers with brutal masked killers and comedy elements. Holt and Gooding project genuine chemistry making their “enemies to lovers” dynamic feel natural. Similar to other slashers, the film keeps you guessing who might be under the mask but if you pay attention to the small details you can guess before the killer makes his speech and reveals its motives.
Even though it is an enjoyable bloody slasher, the film can feel extremely familiar, falling into a narrative that lacks originality and the plot can be predictable. If you are looking to have a good time during Valentine’s Day in theaters and want to combine horror with the day of love and friendship, Heart Eyes is a good choice.
