It’s common to see murder cases on the big screen. We have already saw the cases and lives of serial killers like Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Damher, Aileen Wuornos, etc. This is why I bring you 6 horror characters that are based on famous serial killers. Probably you recognize all of them but you didn’t knew who was the inspiration.

The first 4 horror characters all based on the same serial killer: Ed Gein. Known also as the Butcher of Plainfield, was an American murderer and body snatcher. In 1957 authorities discovered he had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies from their bones and skin. He also killed two women: Mary Hogan in 1954 Bernice Worden in 1957.
By 1968, he was found guilty of the murder of Worden, and found legally insane and. He died of respiratory failure, on July 26, 1984, aged 77. He is buried next to his family in an unmarked grave.
1. Leatherface
Leatherface is a fictional character in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre film series created by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper. He appears as a cannibalistic and mentally unstable mass murderer who, alongside his family, kidnaps, kills, and cooks unsuspecting travellers who venture near their ranch in an unidentified part of Texas.
2. Norman Bates
Norman Bates is a fictional character created by American author Robert Bloch as the main antagonist in his 1959 novel Psycho. He was portrayed by Anthony Perkins in the 1960 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, by Vince Vaughn in the 1998 remake, and by Freddie Highmore in the tv series Bates Motel (2013–2017).
3. Oliver Thredson “Bloody Face”
Dr. Oliver Thredson was a psychiatrist brought to Briarcliff Sanitarium to assess Kit Walker’s sanity in American Horror Story: Asylum. He was the serial killer Bloody Face. He killed women and used their skin and bones to make his house furniture.
4. Buffalo Bill
Jame Gumb, also known as Buffalo Bill, is a fictional character and the main antagonist of Thomas Harris’s 1988 novel The Silence of the Lambs and its 1991 film adaptation. In the film and the novel, he is a serial killer who murders overweight women and skins them so he can make a “woman suit” for himself.
5. Dr. Hannibal Lecter
Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a character created by novelist Thomas Harris. Lecter is a serial killer who eats his victims. He’s inspired by the real killer Dr. Alfredo Treviño, a mental patient and the last men to be on the death road in Mexico. Treviño was a murderer who could “package his victim in a surprisingly small box”.
6. Mrs. Bathory
Mrs. Bathory is a character from the horror film Hostel 2 and one of the few female clients of the Elite Hunting. She likes to torture her victims and being bath on their blood. She’s inspired by the serial killer Elizabet Bathory, who killed over 600 young girls to bath on their blood and remain young.
