Nope (2022) spoiler free review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Aliens and cowboys? We have seen them before. But this is not your typical science fiction horror film. From the mind of Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us) comes a new masterpiece to the genre. Staring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, and Michael Wincott.

Caretakers at a California horse ranch encounter a mysterious force that affects human and animal behaviour.

Official plot

Nope, as an untitled project, was officially announced on November 9, 2020. The title and first poster were released on July 22, 2021. The film won Most Anticipated Film on July 1, 2022 at the Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Awards.

My opinion

From left to right: Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, and Steven Yeun

This is the most enjoyable science fiction horror film that has come out in years. During the 2 hours and 10 minutes the cast delivers a great performance building up the tension until the last very moment. Kaluuya and Palmer as siblings are the perfect match, they spend the majority of the film together bringing both tense and funny moments at the same time. The film is unintentional funny, you will have a little laugh without loosing the tension.

Nope is not the typical aliens vs cowboys film where they’ll just fight. Instead the film brings a real issue to the table, the use of animals in the entertainment industry and their consequences. Even the UFO is a victim of it, and of course the consequences are paid. This film is a good concept executed perfectly, even make it feel 100% original the appearance of an UFO in a hose ranch. Peele delivers once again a horror masterpiece, and indeed one of the best horror films of 2022. Nope is available on movie theaters.
