Ouija board game: Why is so famous and dangerous
Ouija boards are spirit boards, mostly made of wood, that are marked with all the letters of the alphabet, numbers 0 to 9 and the words yes, non goodbye and occasionally hello. The work Ouija is a trademark of Hasbro, a multinational conglomerate of toys and board games, but is still used to refer to spirit boards.
Ouija boards where introduced to the market on July 1, 1890 by Elijah Bond. Later the Spiritualists movement appeared in the United States. This movement believed that the dead were able to contact the living by a talking board very similar to a modern Ouija board. The Ouija board game was presenten as an innocent game with no relation to the occult until American spiritualist Pearl Curran popularized its use after Word War 1.
Horror movies on the other hand have influenced the evil reputation of the game. Movies like The Exorcist (1973) features a scene where Regan tells her mother that she’s been playing with a ouija board and making contact with Captain Howdy. Later on the movie we see Regan been possessed and having an exorcism.
Other movies are fully focused on the board like Ouija (2014) and Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016). Both movies show the consequences of playing irresponsibly with the board.
No one has been able to prove how real the game can be, and that’s why it’s so famous, the atmosphere of danger and mystery works as a magnet to curious people. But that’s why is also so dangerous, not knowing what you’re doing can result on a catastrophe. This is why I’m asking you to don’t play if you don’t know on what you’re getting yourself into.
