Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City (2021) spoiler free review

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Welcome to Raccoon City, home of Umbrella. On September 30, 1998 the fate of the people of the city is decided with Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield trying to survive what is coming. Being a reboot of the franchise this film will take us to the origin of Umbrella Corp and the heroes and villains of one of the most popular horror games Resident Evil.

Survivors try to discover the truth behind the evil Umbrella Corporation. Meanwhile, they fight bloodthirsty zombies in the moors of Raccoon City.

Official plot

My opinion

One hour and forty-seven minutes are not enough to do an introduction to the characters of the game and giving their origin stories. The film takes elements and characters from Resident Evil (1996) and Resident Evil 2 (1998). If you have play them it won’t be hard to recognize them. The film also brings back some characters that we have seen before on the movie franchise including Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine, Ada Wong, Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Albert Wesker. The film also introduced into the movie franchise other characters including Ben Bertolucci and Richard Aiken.

The only good things that the film has is the soundtrack and that is not boring. But on the down side leaves more questions than answers, it doesn’t give enough information for an introductory film and the illumination. The film takes place at night and 90% of the scenes are way too dark, making a little uncomfortable for the eyes when flashlights were directed at the camera. Other scenes felt like you were into the video-game including some jump scares.
