Scream 5 (2022) spoiler free review

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Is always someone you know. Scream 5 is hitting theatres today but lucky fans, like me, were able to watch it on Thursday night at the premiere. Meaning that spoilers will be all over the internet by now. Still, this is a safe space for it since this review is spoiler free. The only place were I will give spoilers is on my YouTube channel.

My opinion

Ghostface is back on the bloodiest, brutal, and best way possible. Seream 5 serves as the perfect combination of a sequel and a reboot. Or like one of the characters said a requel. 25 years later the franchise still has its touch but with an obvious piece missing, Wes Craven. He passed away on 2015, making this film the first one on the franchise that is not directed by him.

Scream 5 introduces new characters while bringing back the original characters that had make it this far. Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter feels just like Drew Barrymore as Casey Becker. Ortega delivered an outstanding performance on the classic opening scene and rest of the film. As an actress, she has the potential of becoming a scream queen. Just like the others, this sequel will emerge you on the game of finding out who is the killer and why they’re doing it.

Once again we’re introduce to new ground rules, but this time to the Stab franchise. According to Dewey Riley they’re three rules of a Stab movie: Never trust the lover, The killer is always related to the past, The first victim has a close group of friends. Don’t forget the rules as watching this one.

Is always someone you know is the star of the whole marketing campaign of the film, but is the truth. For 111 minutes you will have the killer on you face, and you already know who it is. Creative deaths and a brutal Ghostface will fill the expectations of fans but this is a film that is not only dedicated to Wes Craven, but a one that he would be proud of.
