The Haunting of Bly Manor spoiler free review
Hello horror freaks! Today I’m reviewing the newest horror series of Netflix The Haunting of Bly Manor. Based on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, published on 1898. The series is preceded by The Haunting of Hill House that premiered on Netflix on October 12, 2018.
“The story tells of a young governess hired by a man to look after his niece and nephew at the family country house after they fall into his care. Arriving at the Bly estate, she begins to see apparitions that proceed to haunt the premises.”
Official synopsis
I’m going to start by saying that if you liked The Haunting of Hill House you’re going to love this one. It keeps the essence of the first one, like hiding ghosts on the corners, but gives a completely new horror experience.
The work of the cast is fantastic, Victoria Pedretti as the lead character didn’t disappoint. Amelie Bea Smith and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Flora and Miles Wingrave are simply exceptional. They’re the type of children that inspire love and gives you the creeps at the same time. I want to see them in other horror projects in the future.
Just like Hill House the series combines the present with the past. Being set between 1987 and 2007 in London and California.
I give the series a solid five of five. Over exceded my expectations and I hope that the team behind both series can come back with another story to tell. Finally some good horror for once.
