The Twin (2022) spoiler free review
Only a mother would love her son no matter how evil he becomes. The Twin is a Finnish psychological horror film directed by Taneli Mustonen and written by Aleksi Hyvärinen and Mustonen. Filming took place in Finland and Estonia from March to April 2021.
After the death of one of their twin sons, Rachel and Anthony settle in the Scandinavian countryside to heal the soul wounds. There, however, she discovers that a supernatural and evil force wants to take the little one she has left.
Official plot
The Twin starts Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies, Lights Out),who was pregnant with her fourth child during filming, Steven Cree (Outlander), and Tristan Ruggeri (The Witcher). It had an official premiere at the Night Visions Film Festival in Helsinki, Finland on March 24, 2022.
My opinion
The film has a running time of one hour and forty-nine minutes, which is excessively long for the simplicity of the plot. The story is a combination of horror cliches such as a family moving to a place with a dark past, a mother’s grief and despair over their kids, a supernatural presence that wants to take away the child, etc. All of this makes the film a little boring and predictable.
The plot twist at the last 10 minutes was the only moment of the film that I wasn’t able to predict. But, it will remind the viewers of other films with the same ending. Sadly, the film is only able to do that, remind the viewer of other films that had the same concept/situations.
This is a film that you may enjoy or maybe not. In general, the film is not able to offer something new or fresh to the audience. The acting is decent, nothing outstanding with a simple and boring script. The Twin is available to stream on Shudder.
