The unsolved murder of The Black Dahlia: Elizabeth Short

One the worst and most popular unsolved case in the United States the murder of The Black Dahlia. Elizabeth Short was found in pieces on a park in Los Ángeles, California in 1947. Over 60 suspects but the killer was never found.

The life of Elizabeth Short

Born on July 29, 1924 Elizabeth Short was an American woman who was found murdered in the Leimert Park of Los Ángeles, California. Short was originally from Boston but moved to California where her father lived. Worked as a waitress but she was an aspiring actress but there’s no record that she did any acting job.

She was known posthumously as The Black Dahlia. According to reports a drugstore owner of Long Beach, California said that the nickname was given to her by the male customers of the store. She commonly used black outfits and a Dahlia on her hair.

Her death and legacy

In the morning of January 15, 1947 her body was found laying on the grass in the Leimert Park, Los Ángeles. Her naked body was mutilated and severed in two pieces. On her face she had two cuts on each corner of her mouth giving her a Glasgow smile.

Her case became very popular because of the brutality and the state that her body was found. The autopsy revealed the cause of death as cerebral hemorrhage. Short’s body was completely cut in half, had irregular marks on the wrist, ankles, and neck, a laceration on her right breast, right forearm, left upper arm, and on the lower left side of her chest. It was also revealed that her anal canal was dilated, suggesting that she was raped but the testing of presence of sperm came back negative.

In total the police had over 500 confessions made by men claiming to be the killer. But the real responsible was never found.
