Filming an adults movie can turn into a horror film. Directed by Ti West this American erotic slasher starts Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, Brittany Snow, Owen Campbell, Stephen Ure, and Scott Mescudi. Distributed by A24 the film had its world premiere on the SXSW Festival on March 13, 2022 and arrived to theaters on March 18, 2022.

A film crew arrives at a secluded farmhouse in Texas to shoot a pornographic film. The leering interest of their hosts, a reclusive elderly couple, turns violent as night falls.

Official plot

Ti West confirmed that a prequel, called Pearl, was shot back-to-back. Named after the character of Mia Goth it will feature a young version of Maxine/Pearl. The film is already in post production but a release date is not confirmed yet. The prequel is also written and directed by West with A24 as the producer.

My opinion

Ever since I saw the trailer of this film I had high expectations about it. It was even one the most expected horror movies for me. And it didn’t disappoint. The trailer and plot will lead you to think that film will move into one direction but is going on the other direction. The film does an homage to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and to the slasher subgenre.

The film has a running time of 1 hour and 40 minutes but is not until the 45 minutes mark that the real horror begins. The film makes a combination between horror and comedy but without loosing the horror factor. The way that the scenes are cut and how they transition can make you feel stressful as the tension keeps building up. Both Jenna Ortega and Mia Goth did an outstanding job on the film.

The characters are all well written and portrayed. The whole cast did a good job but Ortega and Goth served and left no crumbs. The body horror and killing scenes are one of the best parts of the film. It’s a film that goes so smoothly that you won’t even feel that is 1 hour and 40 minutes long. It’s a must watch for any horror fan, you don’t want to miss it. It’s too soon to say it but probably is going to be one of the best horror movies of the year.
