Say my name
In present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, Anthony and his partner move into a loft in the now gentrified Cabrini. A chance encounter with an old-timer exposes Anthony to the true story behind Candyman. Anxious to use these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, he unknowingly opens a door to a complex past that unravels his own sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence.

My opinion
Bringing a character back and making it work is not something that happens too often. But this film is the exception. Nia DaCosta and Jordan Peele were able to continue Candyman’s legend on the most interesting and emotional way possible.
1 hour and 30 minutes are precisely what you need to tell this story. I highly recommend watching Candyman (1992) before watching this one. It’s a sequel but is able to explain what you need to know in order to don’t feel lost. The only thing is that because you already watched the 1992 film is not going to be any surprise on the plot.
Pay attention to the background and anything that can make a reflection, you can find someone there. The ending scene is an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you on the edge of your seat. This is one of the best horror movies of the year. It was totally worth it waiting a whole year to watch it.
