Most disturbing horror movies that I’ve have ever seen

On the history of movies they’re some that are well recognize, but not all of them are recognize for the best reasons. On this post I list the 6 Most disturbing horror movies that I’ve ever seen on my life. This films are controversial for many reasons and some of them are banned in many countries. This list is not created with the purpose of recommendation. But they also have another thing in common: they’re all European. It’s more common to see this type of films being done on Europe rather that on America because of Hollywood censorship and the audience response. On Europe this are “art films”, on America they are considered brutal and even banned most of the time.

This films are very explicit on violence, touch sensitive subjects and show mature content. Watch them at your own risk.

Martyrs (2008)

Plot: “The film follows Lucie and Anna, in which Lucie’s quest to seek revenge on the people who abducted and tortured her as a child leads her and Anna, also a victim of abuse, into a spiral of something much more sinister.”

Martyrs is an 2008 french psychological horror film. Directed and written by the french screenwriter Pascal Laugier. What made this film so controversial, besides the plot, is the brutal violence that presents. On 2015 an American remake was made, written by Mark L. Smith (Vacancy, The Revenant).

Antichrist (2009)

Plot: “Tells the story of a couple who, after the death of their child, retreat to a cabin in the woods where the man experiences strange visions and the woman manifest increasingly violent sexual behavior and sadomasochism.”

Antichrist is an 2009 experimental psychological horror film directed by Lars von Trier (Nymphomaniac, The House that Jack Built). The film is highly influenced by Trier own experience with anxiety and depression, it was filmed on Germany with a Danish production. The controversy of the film relies on how graphic the scenes can be.

The Human Centipede: First Sequence (2009)

Plot: “The films tells the story of a deranged German surgeon who kidnaps 3 tourists and joins them surgically, mouth to anus, forming a human centipede.”

The Human Centipede: First Sequence is an 2009 Dutch horror film directed, written and co-produced by Tom Six. He got the idea because of a joke that he made about punishing a child molester by stitching his mouth to the anus of a fat truck driver. Financiers of the film didn’t know the whole plot of it until it was completed. A second and third movies were made increasing the number of victims to 12 and 500 respectively.

Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)

Plot: “The film focuses on 4 wealthy corrupt Italian libertines in the time of the fascist Republic of Salò. They kidnap 18 teenagers and subject them to 4 months of extreme violence, sadism, sexual and psychological torture.”

Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom is an 1975 Italian art film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. It’s based on the book The 120 Days of Sodom or the School of Libertinage written by the french writer Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade in 1785. It’s classified as erotic fiction and described as pornographic and extremely cruel . It was wrote while Donatien was imprisoned in the Bastille in 1785, the novel was never completed and remained as a draft until it was founded on the early 20th century.

A Serbian Film (2010)

Plot: “Tells the story of a financially struggling porn star who agrees to participate in an “art film”, only to discover that he has been drafted into a snuff film with pedophilic and necrophilic themes.”

A Serbian Film is an 2010 Serbian exploitation horror film directed by Srdjan Spasojevic. The film’s controversy revolves around the brutal violence, explicit sexual scenes, the rape of a newborn baby and overall plot.

Cannibal Holocaust (1980)

Plot: “A crew has gone missing while filming a documentary on local cannibal tribes. The rescue team is only able to recover the crew’s lost cans of films.”

Cannibal Holocaust is an 1980 Italian cannibal film by Ruggero Deodato. It was filmed on the Amazon rainforest in Colombia and innovated the found footage genre that was later popularized in America by The Blair Witch Project (1999). The film become controversial because of the extreme realism that presents. The cast killed several animal during the film that are completely real, they didn’t use any especial effects or props. Secondly the cast had to sign a contract were they would not appear on any media for a year after the film was released in order to convince the audience that it was real. The director was arrested and went to trial, he had to prove that the cast was alive and that they didn’t kill a girl that appeared impaled in one scene. On 2013 Eli Roth did The Green Inferno, a film that serves as homage to the original.
